David Shymko
(Investment Counselor)
Hailing from the interior of B.C., David received both his Bachelor
of Science (Geophysics), and his Masters of Business Administration
(Finance) from University of British Columbia. In 1972, he partnered
with Doug Macdonald to form Macdonald, Shymko & Company. Over the
years, David has added to his credentials by obtaining the
designations of R.F.P. (Registered Financial Planner)
and T.E.P. (Trust & Estate Practitioner).
He was a long-standing member of the Canadian Association of Financial
Planners and has served in many capacities including National President
(1991-1993). He continues to be a member in the successor organization to the CAFP, the Institute of Advanced Financial Planners.
In addition, David is also an active member of the Canadian Tax
Foundation and most recently became a member of the International
Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. Throughout his career, he
has contributed to and been referenced in, local and national
newspapers and magazines on a variety of issues.
Having grown up in the mountains, David has climbed many of the
peaks in the Rockies and hiking continues to be a pursuit of his. As a
seasoned world traveler, he feels his experiences abroad provide him
with life perspective and an appreciation for what it means to live
in Canada.

Ian Black
(Investment Counselor)
Ian is a native of the Okanagan who graduated in 1992 from UBC with a Bachelor of Commerce
degree, and then went on to work for a major Credit Union for 3 years. He joined Macdonald,
Shymko & Company in 1996 and became a principal of the Firm in 2000. He has completed the Canadian
Securities Course, an Associate Certificate in Financial Planning from BCIT and attained the
R.F.P. designation in 1999. Ian is a Practitioner Member of the Institute of Advanced Financial Planners.
Outside the office, Ian enjoys skiing, running, cooking and spending
time with friends and family (including his wife Michelle and three young children Cason, Harris and Hadley).
