Doug Macdonald
(Investment Counselor)

A Westerner, Doug received his Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from the University of Victoria in 1969. He went on to complete his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance & Marketing from the University of British Columbia. After lecturing at the University of Saskatchewan for a year, Doug returned to Vancouver to found Macdonald, Shymko & Company with David Shymko in 1972. Shortly thereafter, he earned his Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation and in 1986, Doug received the prestigious R.F.P. (Registered Financial Planner) designation. He is also registered as a Real Estate Agent in British Columbia. Doug is registered under MSC’s Investment Counsel status.

Doug was an active member of the Canadian Association of Financial Planners (CAFP) from 1984 to 2002. He served as both Director and President of the Pacific Chapter, and as National Director, President and Chairman. Doug also served for 10 years on the CAFP Board of Regents, the majority of that time, as Chairman. In 1992, Doug was awarded the "Member of the Year Award" for his "exemplary leadership and outstanding contributions to the profession."

Based on his ongoing commitment to professionalism, Doug, with the support of MSC, rejoined the Board of Regents in 2002 and was instrumental in protecting the R.F.P. designation and overseeing its transfer to the Institute of Advanced Financial Planners (IAFP). He served as the Chairperson for the inaugural year, and remains a Past Chairperson of the I.A.F.P.. Since the I.A.F.P.’s inception (2002), Doug has served as Chairperson of the Board of Regents.

In 2006, Doug received the Advisor Edge’s Career Achievement award; this esteemed award was created to provide peer and professional recognition to an individual whose leadership helped build the financial services industry in Canada and assisted its professionals with skill and ethical development for the protection of consumers

In summer, Doug can be found at the Lake of the Woods in Ontario, in his canoe communing with nature. He enjoys playing the "occasional" round of golf, and spends his winters curling and attending the theatre.


 


Gina Macdonald
(Investment Counselor)

Gina grew up in Vancouver and completed her Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) degree at the University of British Columbia. She joined Macdonald, Shymko & Company in 1995 and became a principal of the Firm in 2000. During her early years with the firm, she completed BCIT's Associate Certificate in Financial Management (Financial Planning). Gina is a qualified provider of severance counseling to provincial government employees. She has also completed the Canadian Securities Course, and has attained the CFP (Certified Financial Planner) and R.F.P. (Registered Financial Planner) designations.

She continues to energetically improve her educational background in financial planning. As a Member of the Canadian Association of Financial Planners, she has been involved with the CAFP (BC) Planning Schools and CAFP Vancouver Convention. She is currently a member of Advocis and the Institute of Advanced Financial Planners (IAFP). MoneySaver has named her a Contributing Editor, as a result of her contributions to the magazine.

Activities with her family and friends, as well as her volunteer commitments, keep Gina busy outside the office. She is a graduate of the Leadership Vancouver program’s 2002 Class and was the Treasurer for the York House School Alumnae Association from 2000 to 2006.


 


Keith Copping
(Investment Counselor)

Keith grew up in Vancouver and graduated from UBC in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He previously worked in the Financial Services industry for over 15 years with a major Trust Company/Bank. Working in several communities within Greater Vancouver, he held a variety of positions including Financial Planner and Management roles.

Keith joined Macdonald Shymko & Company Ltd in 2004 to apply his experience & passion in the field of Financial Planning. His education in the Financial Services industry includes completion of the Canadian Securities Course in 1997 and the PFPC (Personal Financial Planning Course) in 2001. Since joining Macdonald, Shymko & Company Ltd, he obtained the CFP (Certified Financial Planner) designation in 2004, the CIM designation in 2006 and the R.F.P. designation in 2007.

Outside of work, Keith enjoys renovating his home, weekends at the cottage and spending time with his family.


 


Ngoc Day


Born in Viet Nam, Ngoc became a native of British Columbia in 1980. She earned her Master of Science from UBC in 1988. Ngoc has completed the Canadian Securities, and the Investment Management Technique courses. She also holds the Certified Financial Planner (C.F.P) designation. Ngoc has worked for a federal government agency, UBC and a major Credit Union in BC.

Following her passion for financial planning, Ngoc joined MSC in 2006. She is an Associate Member of the Institute of Advanced Financial Planners, and is working toward her CIM (Canadian Investment Manager) and Registered Financial Planner (R.F.P.) designations.

Ngoc is an active volunteer in a community organization, whose goal is helping women achieving economic security. She enjoys music, cooking, and exploring the world with her family.
