A native of B.C.’s Okanagan, Ian graduated from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 1992 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, and then worked for a major Credit Union for three years. He joined Macdonald, Shymko & Company Ltd. (MSC) in 1996, and became a principal in 2000. He has completed the Canadian Securities Course, holds an Associate Certificate in Financial Planning from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), attained the R.F.P. (Registered Financial Planner) designation in 1999 and the TEP (Trust & Estate Practitioner) designation in 2011. Ian is a Practitioner Member of the Institute of Advanced Financial Planners (IAFP), and is registered under MSC’s Portfolio Manager status.
Outside the office, Ian enjoys skiing, running, cooking and spending time with friends and family. He is married with three young children.

Keith grew up in Vancouver and graduated from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 1989 with a B.A. He has worked in Financial Services since graduation, and has held a variety of financial planning and management positions with a national Trust company.
Keith joined MSC in 2004 to apply his experience and passion for financial planning. He became a principal of Macdonald, Shymko & Company Ltd. (MSC) in 2009. Since joining MSC, he has earned the CFP (Certified Financial Planner), R.F.P. (Registered Financial Planner) and CIM (Canadian Investment Manager) designations. He has also completed Level 1 of the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Program and is registered under MSC’s Portfolio Manager status.
Outside of work, Keith enjoys renovating his home, cycling, weekends at the cottage and spending time with his family.

Larry is a native of Vancouver who received his Diploma of Technology (Administration and Finance) from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in 1971. He joined Macdonald, Shymko & Company Ltd. (MSC) in January of 1975 and became a principal in October of 1976. After joining MSC, Larry obtained his Notary Public designation. Realizing that education is a never-ending process, Larry, at the age of 45, received his Masters of Business Administration (International Management) from Asia Pacific International School of Management. He also holds the R.F.P. (Registered Financial Planner) designation and is registered under MSC’s Portfolio Manager status.
Larry was a Practitioner Member of the Canadian Association of Financial Planners (CAFP) for many years. During that time, he served in many leadership roles, including President of the B.C. Chapter, and National Vice President. In keeping with MSC’s long-standing commitment to advancing the profession of financial planning, Larry has served on the Board of the Institute of Advanced Financial Planners (IAFP) since 2002 as Treasurer and Vice President. In 2006, Larry became National President of the IAFP (www.iafp.ca) and in September of 2010 was elected to serve on the IAFP’s Board of Regents.
Larry is the proud father of two sons, and proud Grandfather of two. He is an avid bridge player and enthusiastically enjoys baseball and the CFL.

Gina grew up in Vancouver and completed her B.A. in Psychology at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She joined Macdonald, Shymko & Company Ltd. (MSC) in 1995 and became a principal of MSC in 2000. During her early years with MSC, she completed the British Columbia Institute of Technology’s (BCIT’s) Associate Certificate in Financial Management and the Canadian Securities Course. Gina is a qualified provider of severance counseling to provincial government employees, and has earned the CFP (Certified Financial Planner) and R.F.P. (Registered Financial Planner) designations. Gina is registered as a Portfolio Manager with the B.C. Securities Commission.
Gina continues to energetically improve her educational background in financial planning and business. As a Member of the Canadian Association of Financial Planners (CAFP), she was involved with numerous CAFP (BC) Planning Schools and the CAFP Vancouver Convention. Gina has served as co-chair of the Institute of Advanced Financial Planners (IAFP)’s national education symposium, and is currently a member of the Vancouver Board of Trade, Association of Women in Finance, Forum for Women Entrepreneurs, and the IAFP. Gina is also a Contributing Editor for Money Sense magazine and is regularly interviewed as an expert by the media.
Activities with family and friends, photography, and volunteer commitments keep Gina busy outside the office. She is a graduate of the Leadership Vancouver program and was the Treasurer for the York House School Alumnae Association for six years. She has provided mentorship through BCIT’s Financial Management, YWCA’s Connect to Success and York House School. She has also been involved with Rethink Breast Cancer, Big Brothers & Sisters, HSBC Childrun, Kerrisdale Little League, Bumblebee Preschool, as well as Community Rowing and Dragonboating.

A Westerner, Doug received his Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from the University of Victoria in 1969, then completed his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance & Marketing from the University of British Columbia (UBC). After lecturing at the University of Saskatchewan for a year, Doug returned to Vancouver to found Macdonald, Shymko & Company Ltd. (MSC) with David Shymko in 1972. Shortly thereafter, he earned his CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation and, in 1986, became the first person in Canada to receive the prestigious R.F.P. (Registered Financial Planner) designation. He is also registered as a Real Estate Agent in British Columbia and is registered under MSC’s Portfolio Manager status.
Doug was an active member of the Canadian Association of Financial Planners (CAFP) from 1984 to 2002. He served as both Director and President of the Pacific Chapter, and as National Director, President and Chairperson. Doug also served for 10 years on the CAFP Board of Regents, the majority of that time as Chairperson. In 1992, Doug was awarded the “Member of the Year Award” for his “exemplary leadership and outstanding contributions to the profession.”
In his ongoing commitment to the profession, Doug rejoined the CAFP Board of Regents in 2002, and advocated for the newly created Institute of Advanced Financial Planners (IAFP) to administrate the R.F.P. in consideration of the designation’s integrity. He served as IAFP Chairperson for its inaugural year in 2002, and remains a Past Chairperson. Doug served as Chairperson of the IAFP’s Board of Regents from 2002 to 2010.
More recently, Doug received the esteemed Advisor Edge’s Career Achievement award, which honours an individual whose leadership has been integral in developing the Canadian financial services industry, and the skill and ethical development of its professionals, in the interest of protecting consumers.
Each summer, Doug can be found at the Lake of the Woods in Ontario. He enjoys playing the occasional round of golf, and spends his winters curling and attending the theatre.

Brinsley is a native of Vancouver and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Simon Fraser University (SFU). He joined Macdonald, Shymko & Company Ltd. (MSC) in 1997 and became a principal of the firm in 2000. Brinsley has completed the Canadian Securities Course, received an Associate Certificate in Financial Planning from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), and holds the CFP (Certified Financial Planner), R.F.P. (Registered Financial Planner) and CIM (Canadian Investment Manager) designations. He has also successfully completed the Level 1 of the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Program. Hailing from the interior of B.C., David received both his Bachelor of Science in Geophysics and his Masters of Business Administration in Finance from the University of British Columbia (UBC). In 1972, he partnered with Doug Macdonald to form Macdonald, Shymko & Company Ltd. (MSC). Over the years, David has added to his credentials by obtaining the designations of R.F.P. (Registered Financial Planner) and TEP (Trust & Estate Practitioner). David is registered under MSC’s Portfolio Manager status.
David was a long-standing member of the Canadian Association of Financial Planners (CAFP) and served in many capacities, including National President (1991-1993). He continues to be a member in the CAFP’s successor organization, the Institute of Advanced Financial Planners (IAFP), is an active member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, and most recently became a member of the international Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). Throughout his career, he has contributed to and been referenced in local and national newspapers and magazines on a variety of issues.
Having grown up in the mountains, David has climbed many of the peaks in the Rockies, and hiking continues to be a pursuit of his. As a seasoned world traveler, he feels his experiences abroad provide him with life perspective and an appreciation for what it means to live in Canada.

Clayton was born in South Africa and grew up in London, Ontario and Vancouver, B.C. In 2007, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Western Ontario (UWO). Trading in his lab coat for a suit jacket, he returned to Vancouver and completed a Diploma of Technology in Financial Management from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in 2009. Currently, he is working toward his CIM (Chartered Investment Manager) and CFP (Certified Financial Planner) designations.
Outside the office, Clayton stays active playing hockey at the North Shore Winter Club (NSWC). His summers are filled with golf, slo-pitch baseball, and usually a trip to Ontario’s cottage country or the South African coast.

Born in Viet Nam, Ngoc became a resident of British Columbia in 1980. She earned her Master of Science from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 1988, and worked for a federal government agency, UBC, and a major Credit Union in BC prior to joining Macdonald, Shymko and Company Ltd. (MSC) in 2006.
Following her enthusiasm for financial planning and desire to support people in achieving their goals, Ngoc has earned the CFP (Certified Financial Planner), CIM (Canadian Investment Manager), R.F.P. (Registered Financial Planner) and TEP (Trust & Estate Practitioner) designations. She is registered under MSC’s Portfolio Manager status.
